Maintenance Supervisor

Position Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising Maintenance personnel in the repair or modification of all plant and interceptor equipment / vehicles.
 

Job Duties

  • Assigns union work force to daily work assignments based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel.
  • Assists Storeroom with the purchasing of parts and materials for equipment repairs or modifications.
  • Assists the Maintenance Planner by keeping cost records of equipment, parts and labor.
  • Plans manpower and parts for outages.
  • Improves equipment reliability by resolving chronic problems and anticipating possible new problems.
  • Monitors jobs to insure compliance with Authority safe work policies and procedures.
  • Holds safety meetings to motivate and train personnel in Authority safety policies and investigates accidents and/or injuries and prepares report of findings.
  • Assists the Maintenance Planner with establishing preventive maintenance procedures on new and existing equipment.
  • Enforces general Authority and maintenance work rules.
  • Promotes the training of apprentices in developing their capabilities to function independently as skilled craftsmen by monitoring and signing off on apprenticeship tasks.
  • Monitors maintenance tools and shops to ensure adequate clean and safe working conditions.
  • Participates in budget preparation and administration by documenting and monitoring departmental expenditures and recommending personnel actions such as hiring staff needed for present and future workloads.
  • Meets with vendors or suppliers to discuss products used in repair work.
  • Audits craftsmen and makes recommendations for training needed to keep skills current with new and changing technology.

Minimum Education Level Required

Technical school graduate or Certified Journeyman. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred. Directly related experience may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.

Minimum Experience Required

Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience as a craftsman or five (5) years with an Engineering degree and a minimum of five (5) years supervisory experience with bargaining unit employees.

Required Certifications / Licenses

Journeyman Certification Preferred
